WI Obama had Nationalized insolvent banks?

Suppose the new US President had decided to take a more populist approach and taken this step. I rather suspect that the share value of those banks which in OTL are sort of viable because of tax payer subsidies would be pretty low so it would not cost much public money.

HUGE outcry. You're vastly underestimating how crazy the American right-wing is about "socialism" whether real or perceived. Nationalizing anything is political suicide.

Before asking this WI, make sure he doesn't nationalize the banks.

Many of them are already nationalized in part, some to a very large extent. There has indeed been an outcry from the right. But not a HUGE one, despite Crackers' statemet. The only things that spark HUGE outcries are, I'm afraid, social issues centered around the sacred acts of love.

That's because they aren't fully nationalized. If Obama had outright seized them completely my statement would be correct.

You know what, I don;t think so. Especially as Obama's style would be to euphemize the action. He already is talking about nationalizing them in the future - but isn't calling it that. At least, he is making cryptic statements that leave the door open to nationalization.
