Hi everyone, first time poster here. I was just thinking of a topic that I hadn't seen discussed yet, and thought I'd like to see what everyone thought about it.
As everyone knows, the Norse inhabitants of Greenland briefly started a colony on the eastern shore of Canada, likely in Newfoundland, and named it Vinland, in about 985/986 AD. What if, instead of their colony failing, they defeated (or perhaps subjugated) the Native Americans and were able to spread out and utilize the vast resources of North America? Think it's possible that they may have become an even greater power over the next several hundred years and shifted the power balance in medieval Europe? Maybe its wishful thinking (since I am of Scandinavian descent), but I imagine a newly reunited Scandinavia growing to become a superpower in the next 200 years or so, and (due to their conversion to Catholocism around 1000 AD) possibly gaining a greater influence in the Church, and even becoming a Holy Norse Empire? Thoughts are appreciated.
