WI: No WWII?

So assuming World War II is avoided because the Nazis do not come to power and the allies allow a gradual lessening of Versailles effects in order to ensure German stability and solvency (so that they're capable of paying their indemnities), what is the effect this has on Europe? I personally expect the empires to keep stumbling on for a few more decades till the whole house of cards to collapse. Germany has a lot of potential here though. They are probably big winners long term when they recover from Versailles. France is also way better off long term.

WW2 still happens but no war in europe till uncle joe decides he wants all of europe to him self.

Not gonna happen. Stalin was nothing if not cautious in his foreign policy. If it looks like it's him against Europe he won't go for it. Unless he can find a way to isolate powers and take them on individually the Soviet Union is never gonna opt for war against Europe on its own.

Also it wouldn't be World War II in any case. Just the soviets versus most of Western Europe would be a disaster for them and wouldn't really warrant the title.

Your assuming the West doesnt start it. Or it doesnt start on the periphery, like over Poland or Iran and then spread.

That wouldn't be a world war, just a whole bunch of regional wars. If Stalin decides to invade the rest of Europe, it will probably be another regional war located in Eastern Europe, provided that Chiang and/or Japan doesn't attack the Soviets in the east.

Well tube alloys assumed Stalin would start it and I was responding to that idea. And while it's possible for the west to start it or for a regional conflict to spin out of control I'm on the side of it being unlikely due to Stalin being very good at playing people and managing diplomatic issues.

I think we're all thinking in terms of Immanuel Wallenstein's World Systems Theory without quite realizing it. According to Wallenstein, when the Kondriatev economic cycle is in a mature phase, nations pass into a state of Disrputive Competition with one another. There is no accepted hegemonic power until there is a set of world wars that establish the hegemon for the next World System and the next cycle using the next set of technologies.
If we are saying that we expect a world war soon eventually, even though we don't know who necessarily is going to start it, basically this is what we are really saying.
Wallerstein's world systems theory is fascinating stuff and well worth studying.:):)

I'd actually disagree with that idea though. To me the issue is that most of human history was not a matter of one hegemon or even two. Those are if anything an aberration in world history which only lasts for a bit. More often than not a number of great powers emerge and come to develop their own spheres of influence.
