WI: No UCS

What would people do with their time with no 700+ post threads discussing whether Russia should be green or gold?

Kill themselves. There is no longer any point to living life if we can't argue about the color of a country used in maps on the internet!

If there was no UCS the base-map -derived maps would look fairly shoddy unless there was a great backstory. Think of it, all the same type of bland political map, over and over and over again, no special features, not even an outline of the image itself. There's not little cool frame, or pretend-textbook look, or even the fake treasure-map look. Ugly political maps rule the day as a haphazard mob of images uploaded by attention-desiring people with little to do other than destroy the Roman Empire with Abrahams tanks or whatever.

Without UCS, it's like the little thing that holds all these bland political maps together is gone. A country without a name so to speak.

mmmeee0, you realize people can make a map—any map they want—without having a predetermined color scheme, right? It doesn't detract from the quality of my map at all if I make France blue and Germany gray, or Germany blue and France gray.

Kind of funny that a pseudo-anarchist of all people would be so desiring of a universal set of rules for everyone to conform to.

I'm not desiring of any rules! I do realize they can make any map, but the ease of editing a bland political map makes them the medium of choice for many map-makers. Without UCS we're not going to see the decline of people using the political base maps, merely a chaotic assortment of colour schemes! I duobt that if there was no UCS people would not use a base map, they wouldn't go all-out in creating some radically awesome map but merely work out which colours go where like they do today.

And not to imply the political maps are bad, merely bland.

Also: PSEUDO-THIS IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT.

"WI: No UCS."

Life without Sol Invictus would be unthinkable. The Unconquered Sun is mankind's bulwark against the dark spirits of the universe, the inspiration for all our greatness. You might as well ask what humans would do without Gaia.

What is UCS? I'm guessing it stands for Universal Color Scheme. Is it a new standard for cartographers? Can I find it used in National Geographic magazine?

Everybody would have no purpose in life, and as a result, all morals and values would break down as people started doing meaningless, random things. There'd be anarchy.

It is a system used by many on this particular board. Much controversy has recently ensued in revamping it (see the Books & Media forum).
