WI no Timur's slaughter fest over Persia ?

He killed a great deal of persian population in his campaigns, some estimates from 50% up to 75% :eek:of entire population. Skull piramides (Isfahan) his soldiers used to make after the usual pillage are a bit infamous as well. And as wiki states the pre mongol levels of population were not reached back until 19cent Qajar Iran.
So to my question - this makes entire region more populous, but how is it going to effect the broader picture. I can imagine some persian state emerging more easier for that reason and thus eliminating Safavids out of picture.
Putting all this into perspective Ahmadinejad's statement of the goal of 150 mil Iran does not seem so much of a crazy talk. They still have a long way back. Damn horse nomads.

Not sure all the slaughter has to do with Timur - yes he was a good part of it, but there's also the first wave of Mongol conquest and slaughter and the Ilkhanate's rule, which was not exactly enlightened.

Persia/Iran is probably still underpopulated if the Ilkhanate has ruined it, but it not suffering Timur as it begins to emerge from that is still a good thing.
