WI: No Stockholm Bloodbath

What would happen if Christian II hadn't gone back on his promise of amnesty against the anti-unionists in Sweden at the end of the Kalmar Union, hence not executing 80-some high ranked swedish opponents?

In b4 von Adler comes in and makes my points better than I can.

The problem with maintaining the Union of Kalmar (which I believe this PoD is meant to affect) isn't ironically the murder of 80+ people. It contributed to it, but the fact is that Denmark and Sweden were ran in entirely different manner. Where as the Danes still had mostly serf population, Swedish peasants were free and landing holding and hence were afraid of the Danish king enforcing serfdom on them. Any effort by the Danes to integrate the Union more would've been met with even more revolts and rebellions.

The only way for the Union to realistically have a chance at lasting is to have the Danish ambitions in Germany seize and allow for Swedish merchants to trade with the Hansa on regular basis rather than having to be wary if the Danes start another war with them. Some focus on eastern Finland and the Baltic wouldn't go amiss either.

sure, the Kalmar Union was dying anyway and Stockholm Bloodbath only speeded this up, but as i'm not asking if Kalmar Union would survive (which it most likely wouldn't) its relevance, while there, is argubly minor.

The question is, how would the breaking of the Kalmar union change with no Bloodbath

Someone like Sten Sture or Karl Knutsson Bonde becomes regent and then declares himself king

Given that Sten Sture died of his wounds in one of the battles half a year before the bloodbath ... i doubt he have a go at it. And Karl Knutsson Bonde (Charles VIII) died 50 years earlier, so unless either of them is ISOTed to after the time of where the bloodbath is going to be POD'ed out, i doubt that one as well
