WI: No Second Sino-Japanese War

You'll have to prevent not just the seizure of the Japanese government by ambitious generals, but the entire widespread scientific racist belief that the Japanese are a chosen people destined to be Asia's master, which is rooted in the successful Meiji reformation in the first place. As far back as the late 19th century, the Japanese elite had economic and military designs on at least Korea and coastal China. Butterflying that away is arguably even more profound than, say, Adolf Hitler being accepted into arts school.

The only POD I can think of is that Japan somehow overcomes the military and spirit of gekukojo. Possibly the only last chance for this is 26/2 incident. But, fundamentally, interests of China and Japan collide on multiple levels and neither can come up with solution acceptable to both at the same time.

One way I see is Mao being more succesful/agressive and forcing Chiang to cut a deal with Japanese prior to Nanking and Germans playing a mediator role.

I have no idea how to achieve this, but ...

Chiang can concentrate on the Communists and eventually defeats them.

Depending if Chiang can establish a strong centralised government he will reverse the uneven treaties eventually.

China might become a valuable trade partner and labor source for china.

Japan might look to the north - instead of new BBs tanks are developed - Russo Japanese War in 1939 - casus belli - Japan aids Poland and thus sides with the Allies :D

Not just tanks, whole armed forces and their doctrine must be overhauled to some extend...:D

That's what he tried to do IOTL. It got him kidnapped and convinced him to take a Japan-first strategy. His obsession with Communists in the face of Japanese invasion is going to get him booted out if he keeps it up.

New tanks aren't going to solve Japan's military deficiencies when stacked compared to the Soviet Union. Why attack the Bear when the carrion of China is (seemingly) ripe for the plucking?
