WI no one-sided arms embargo during the Spanish Civil War?

The reason the Spanish Republic lost the Spanish Civil War to the Nationalists, under Francisco Franco, was because Germany and Italy could arm the Nationalists with impunity. And the Spanish Republic? The legitimate
government of Space at the time? It couldn't get arms because of what in theory was something that applied to both sides, but was really meant to disarm the Republic, and make it weak. WI there was no one-sided arms embargo during the Spanish Civil War? I know there were other factors that
contributed to the defeat of the Spanish Republic, but this one was the one
hastened its defeat, and led to the rise of Falangist Spain.

Huh? The Republicans were supplied by Soviet Russia, who, in the end, ended up taking control over their erstwhile allies. Sure the Italians and Germans gave more than the Soviets, but the arms embargo was not one-sided.

Actually it was. The soviets delivered too little and charged too much, politically and financially. If the Republic could have purchased arms on the international market it would have never come under communist control. That and the aditional arms would have allowed them to last longer. If they had made it for another five months they would have won in the end.

All right, a little explanation here. This was according to a British doc about
the Spanish Civil War which aired twice in the mid-1980s. 1985, and again
the following year, 1986. The narrator, I forget who it was, said that the British, Americans, French, and other countries, slapped an arms embargo
on Spain. The Soviet Union, prior to World War II, wasn't a major power. Neither was the United States. The International Brigades, which were raised by the communists, were sent to Spain to fight for the Republic. Do you know what kind of planes the Republican Air Force had at the time? The Polikarpov I-15. It was a biplane fighter. By 1936, it was considered obsolete.

The Arms emargo certainly was one sided. Stalin was neurotic about the arms being shipped covertly and that it couldn't be tied to the USSR. Museums were raided for obsolete weaponry, the routes for arms were circuitious and much of the arms assigned or promised simply never made it. Even for the arms that were provided ammunition was in extremely short supply.

Frankly, if the Republicans had gotten the same calibre of hardware and support that Franco did, it would have been game over for him.

Instead, the western powers strangled the Republicans, leaving them with no avenue but the Soviet Union which proceeded to rob them blind, give them shiite andplay murderous political games.

Alright, I stand corrected. I guess I should read up more on the Spanish civil war.
