WI no new YORK

what would've happened if the Dutch dicided that New Amsterdam was not to be sold to England. would a Dutch speaking, independent Nieuw Amsterdam be able, or would it be coquered by the British sooner or later anyway?

Uhm, I thought it was conquered by the British during the Anglo-Dutch Wars?
It was conquered by the British during the second Anglo-Dutch war and reconquered by the Dutch during part III. In the peace it was exchanged for Guyana, so in a way you could say it was sold.

I think, though, as pompejus says, the Dutch re-conquered it later, but couldn't hold it, and were forced to transfer it back to British administration in the peace.

well they make more money out of Guyana and NY at that time has not much potentiality to grow since it is surrounded by English colonies.

But if the English decide they really want Guyana they might just give away new Amsterdam.

It would eventually go English, one war or the other. However, if it remained Dutch for a long time this could have far-reaching effects. The Dutch system of land ownership, the poltroons, whatever that is, that has some bearing down to the present day, doesn't it?

If it was Dutch a few decade or a century more, we could have ended up with a Dutch speaking minority or even plurality or majority in New York, New jersey and Northern Pennsylvania today or even wirh a Plattdeusch speaking USA (at least north of Virginia and west of New England) if they intergrated into the later german protestant settlers.

It was. Then it was recoquered by the Dutch and then, at peace time, it was traded against Surinam. It's even so that the Dutch WIC(west indies company) high council voted for the trade, and the against-side had just one vote short.
