As title say. We need a TL where Michael Bay is prohibited from making movies. The world should be a little better...

Wikipedia may help...

Michael Bay was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He was raised by his adoptive parents Harriet, a bookstore owner/child psychiatrist, and Jim, a CPA.[7] Bay's grandfather was Russian.[8] His cousin, Susan Bay, is the wife of Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy.[9] He attended the exclusive Crossroads School, in Santa Monica, California.[10]

Bay often traces his interest in action films back to an incident during his childhood. As a boy, he attached some firecrackers to a toy train and filmed the ensuing fiery disaster with his mother's 8mm camera. The fire department was called and he was grounded.[11]
Career

Bay got his start in the film industry interning with George Lucas when he was fifteen, filing the storyboards for Raiders of the Lost Ark, which he thought was going to be terrible. His opinion changed after seeing it in the theater and he was so impressed by the experience that he decided to become a film director.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bay#cite_note-11

there's some interesting PODs there. Either Nimoy marries someone else, and the butterflies (hopefully) prevent Bay from handling a camera.

Or the firecracker blew in his face, and his life takes a turn, hopefully as far as possible from movie making.

Or, simply, Lucas Raiders of the lost ark bombs, or is never made.

We'd still have the other half of the equation, Roland Emmerich, to deal with. A lot of people, myself included, look to Emmerich's Godzilla remake as the begining of the Bay/Emmerich school of film making.

Another thing would be to keep ILM from partnering with either of them - without advanced CGI, Micheal Bay would be stuck making action films like Bad Boys, and Emmerich's last ten years would be butterflied away altogehter. Keep either of them from getting cutting edge special effects, or depending on them, and you've just saved modern cinema a serious headache.

I like that. I'm not interested in derailing anyone's dreams by blowing up fireworks in their faces, but keeping Bay away from advanced special effects means he'll need to put more effort into plot, characterization, etc. instead of relying on "Baysplosions."

Well, it says his Grandfather was Russian. Let's say his family stays in Russia, and he grows up as Mikhail Bayov and ends up directing Victory Day parades instead of movies :p.

How about Jan de Bont, get to make his Godzilla film and it beats Independence Day at the box office in 1996. Not happy with the box office return, Emmerich decides that he will no longer try big budget big effect films and he start making smaller more character driven films.

Micheal Bay film the Rock is a hit in 1996 but he is unable to make Armageddon because two other Meteors threaten Earth film are being make, Deep Impact and James Cameron Killer Meteor film. (I forget the name of the film he wanted to make in the OTL. )

Bay does a small crime thriller, that does well but is not the hit that the Rock was. Bay decide to do a Pearl Harbor film. He has budget problems with the studio, and has to cut the film back and cut out most of the big effect. He is force to focus on the Characters. The Film is a moderate success. He then does Bad Boy Two. He again has to cut out most of the big Stunts and effects that he wanted to include.

Bay run into the same problems with his next film the Island. The Script call for lots of effects and big stunts. The Studio will not fund the film. He end up cutting down the script and producing a character driven piece about the ethic of Human Cloning.

One of the People who enjoy the film is Steven Spielberg, who is producing the Transformer Movie. Spielberg consider Bay as Director, but concludes that since Bay have only done one large budget big effect movie, the Rock and that was back in 1996, another director would be a better choice.

Bay end up directing a few more small films before moving into Film production.

As for Roland Emmerich - it would be easy to butterfly that one, too.
He went to Hollywood to make a movie called "Isobar" that was to include Stallone.
Because of a disagreement with the producers, it rotes into development hell since 1991.
Unfortunately, soon thereafter Emmerich was hired to replace Andrew Davis for Universal Soldier, featuring Jean Claude Van Damne. It was the success of Universal Soldier that (unfortunately) ensured Emmerich Hollywood career, Stargate and eveything else (how I hated Independance day, what a pile of crap !)
