WI: No McGovern-Fraser Commission

I have a TL, A Time For Peace, in which I'm in 1972. Though I didn't put this in, in that TL, a McGovern-Fraser Commission would have not happened. So what if there hadn't been a McGovern-Fraser Commission?

The next DNC is going to be an absolute mess, and I think one way or another, they'd have to institute some sort of superdelegate system in order to please all the different bases of support that the Democrats drew from.

I think Humphrey can get win the nomination in 1972 like he did in 1968. He would do better than McGovern but still lose. I am thinking RMN 55 % and HHH 43 %. Humphrey wins MA, RI, NY, PA, DC, WV, MN and HI for 111 electoral votes to Nixon's 427. Republicans brag about a 42 state landslide.

This, this right here. The economy was absolute shit at the time, and Nixon was really surprised McGovern made no attempt to talk about it whatsoever. "If they vote on prices or unemployment, they'll vote for McGovern", or something to that effect. With someone like Humphrey or even Ed Muskie as the Democratic nominee, 1972 is very, very winnable for the Democrats, provided the McGovern crowd doesn't try to sabotage the whole ordeal like they attempted to in '68.

Yes. Muskie beat Nixon in a poll come election day. So Nixon destroyed Muskie.

Basically Nixon had a very real possibility at losing to anyone to the right of McGovern.
