For the background, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King-Byng_Affair

What if Lord Byng had granted Mackenzie King's request for a dissolution and new election? Who would win? (Of course, King won a few months later, http://en.wikipedia.org/w…/Canadian_federal_election%2C_1926 but that was partly because of anger at the Governor-General's refusal to grant King's election request, and the establishment--after King's resignation--of a very short-lived "acting" government under Meighen. Resentment of these developments not only helped the popularity of the Liberals directly but also brought the Progressives closer to them--their alliance had previously been fraying due to a bribery scandal in the Department of Customs.) If Meighen and the Conservatives win, what are the consequences?

Also, what are the effects on British-Canadian relations? The Affair may have played a role in the Balfour Declaration of 1926 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balfour_Declaration_of_1926 but I don't think anything more than timing would be changed--eventual recognition of the full independence of the Dominions was inevitable.
