What would have happened had John Hinkley not attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan? I read that after the assassination attempt that Reagan became somewhat more spiritual and believed that God had saved him to ensure that he do great things for the American people. That dedication and belief reinforced his commitment to limiting the size of government and defeating the Soviet Union. The out poring of support after the ssassination attempt also helped President Reagan get his economic package through congress. Do you think that things would have been different had there been no assassination attempt? Would Reagan have begun to question or lose faith in his economic proposals during the recession of 1982 when things were looking pretty bleak? Would it have effected his dedication to defeating the soviets?
