Around 1911 the relationship between electoral socialists, who's power was primarily invested in the Socialist Party of America, and the non-electoral socialists, who's power was primarily invested in the IWW. Tensions broke over Bill Haywood's speech at Coopers Union. The dismissal of Haywood in 1913 caused the Socialists membership to drop from 135,000 to 80,000 and never recovered.
