WI: No Indian Mutiny

What if there's no sepoy mutiny in 1857 and so the British govt doesn't seize control of India from the East India Company? Can the east india company keep control into the 20th century and how would the company itself evolve over time to the present day?

Company rule was only a formality by 1857 anyway. The British government already governed India for all practical purposes..

The only difference that does come to mind is that following the Mutiny and the abolishment of the East India Company's various armies no Indian regiment was permitted its own artillery. One could see a much more lethal Indian Army being fielded in, at least, the Great War.

I would also consider it likely that India could, most likely, be put on the fast track to dominionship. Probably not before 1900, but somewhere after the likes of Australia.
