Another one from Ken Burns' "Country Music"...
Founder of WSM was opposed by his father, who owned the company. WI the father flat said no?
Since WSM hosted the Opry from the very start, it seems very likely it wouldn't happen.
Since Chicago's WLS (owned by Sears) already had the most popular show like it, the "National Barn Dance" (& WLS's George Hay became WSM program director...), it also seems likely it would end up attracting the top talent in country music.
Does that mean, as it seems to, Nashville is never home to country music? Does it mean Chicago is? Or does Memphis take that role, as well as for R&R?
Does it mean Southern musicians gravitate to Memphis & end up in R&R or R&B instead of C/W? Or do they go north & work out of Chicago as C/W acts?
With Chicago already a focus for blues, does this lead to R&R happening sooner, as blues & country mix? (If that happens, does it wipe out Memphis' role in R&R, too?

)
How big are the butterlies, here? They look bigger than jumbo jets, to me.
