WI: No Genghis Khan

What if Genghis Khan died early by Bekhter, his half brother killing him by 'accident' when he Genghis was 13 rather than the other way around?

Hmmm...... Well This is interesting there was a thread previously too lazy to search but No Genghis means Poland Hungary remain in power, No rise of Timurids, Kwarazemes ficus on crushing ressistance the Rus remain strong, China still a feudal societ with many warring kingdoms no safe route through the sil road butterflys away Ottomans.... Yeah huge butterflies.

BLASPHEMY

Hmm though still without Temujin, Jamukha would have been Khan and his method of rule never would have achieved the effects Temujin's did. Subutai would never have been able to live to his abilities because Temujin's Meritocracy would notbe in effect all the same.

Its possible Jamukha could overthrow the Jin, but not go any farther then that.

Short-term, Mongolia would remain a war-torn hole...

...and a lot of people today would never have been born...

...yeah, I don't know much more than that.

An early death of Genghis Khan is a POD of such significance that the world which would unfold would be utterly unrecognizable to us.

A slower diffusion of firearms (and maybe paper) to the Middle East and Europe? Persian-dominated Central Asia? No Prester John legend?

Yeah and consider the fact that according to genetic studies something like one in every two hundred people is descended from Genghis Khan (I forget where I read/heard that, the number seemed more important at the time.)

The Song dynasty last perhaps another century, with China becomming more commerce and maritime oriented.

The Arab golden age ends in a wimper rather than a bang. It's Baghdad literary treasures survive to modern times.

Probably no Black Death.

Marco Polo would find a entierly different China
Marco Polo's journey was only made possible by the existence of the Great Khan's empire, through which he was granted safe passage, though. He wouldn't have been able to travel through the many different tribal states without the invitation.

You're assuming there even would be a Marco Polo. Butterflies would almost certainly prevent him from even being born.

It depends on what you're going to do with the Mongols.

Will someone else take up Genghis's place and be more/less effective? Or will the Mongols stay where they are and the rest of the world develops without them?

Either way, good luck with a timeline over this-the world would be so drastically different I wouldn't know where to begin.

Well, you also have to consider all the people that the Khan's armies killed. They would have many children and someone similar to Polo would, in fact be born.

the middle east would probably be a much better place to live, the caliphate would probably have survived, and it could have avoided turning into the shithole it is today.
