It seems to me that in many ways the British Mosquito was in many ways better than the FF. It could carry just as many bombs (6,000 pounds), had the same range, but could fly over 400 mph, faster than most German fighters and with its being made of wood, was harder to see on radar.

Coupled with the fact it only took 2 crewmen to the FF's 8, used less fuel, and was cheaper, and later versions could carry guns and missles and could be used as close in support bombers, or even fighters in a pinch, wouldnt it have made more sense for the US to just build copies of Mosquito's and use those?

It would have been much cheaper because of less fuel, fewer crewmen, and the fact it could serve multiple roles.

To be honest I'm not sure building with wood was cheaper at the time.

Furthermore the British Lancaster had the same range but could carry twice the bomb load so it could serve a roll as a "heavy" bomber.

At least that is until the B29 Superfortress came onto the scene.

So was the B17 Flying Fortress such a good idea?
