WI no Ferrari 312P in 1969?

Instead, after the FIA announcement that only 25 5 litre cars had to be built for Group 4 homolgation in April 1968, they went straight to the 512S to be ready for 1969? This is sort of what Porsche did with the 917.

Would Ferrari's experience with the big P3s and P4s allow them to build the 25 cars and have them ready to win at the start of 1969? How would they fare against the 5 litre GT40s, assuming that the 917 did the same as OTL?
