Franklin Delano Roosevelt, love him or hate him, he changed the presidency in ways that could only possibly be outdone by his cousin Teddy.
What I am here to ask is, what would be the ramnifications of FDR not running in 1940? There are multiple levels to this question, so to make it easier and more streamline I have multiple asepcts to look at here.
1. What affect does this have on the 1940 Elections?
. Who do the parties nominate?
. Who controls congress, and by how much?
. Are any governor elections affected?
. Do the election issues remain the same as OTL?
2. What does the country look like?
. depending on who wins the election, what does the new cabinet look like?
. Does the economy take an up or down swing?
3. What are the ramnifications around the world?
. How do world leaders react to whoever wins the election?
. Do other leaders around the world act differently with a different President?
. Depending on who wins, how does the US react to ww2?
4. What are the longterm effects of FDR not running in 1940?
. Do we still get an amendment limiting presidential terms?
. Does the power of the executive branch still grow as much as it did under FDR?
. Does the US still get into the habbit of allying with dictators in order to take out another dictator?
There are many more questions that could be asked, but this is an easy start.
