I can say with high confidence that there would be many fewer "British Argentina" or "British southern cone" threads in the pre-1900 forum on AH.com. ;)

But what would be the ATL "real-world" consequences?

Chile and Argentina slug it out. About six weeks before the Junta invaded the Falklands there was an incident that nearly lead to war. If Pinochet, or more likely Merino, is convinced that Argentina is coming after them they they are going to try and short circuit it. Probably by doing something radical out of desperation. The alternative is that the Junta goes after Chile to deal with their internal woes. Either way the war is a slugging match, leaving both nations exhausted at the end for no gain.

British armed forces become a defense force/paper tiger caplable of operations in the European theater only, the Royal Navy was due to undergo extremly heavy cuts, global reach would be near impossible once the surface fleet was decimated, on the bonus side with the fall of Thatchers goverment at least British communities in the North of the country would survive and the whole 'greed is good' culture of the damn Yuppies shouldn't happen!
