With the crisis of the 3rd century in its heights it is said that Emperor Carus was considering of adopting Flavius Valerius Constantius (more commonly known as Constantius Chlorus) who was then the Governor of Dalmatia as his heir instead of his dissolute son Carinus... However in OTL this plan never carried out and Carinus became Emperor only to be murdered 2 years later and be succeded by Flavius Diocles who became Emperor Diocletian... WI Constantius succeded Carus in 283 AD? Eliminating thus the reign of Diocletian... Constantius was an able General and a good administrator... Could he had saved the crumbling Empire from 3d's century Crisis or a system like Tetrarchy is the only viable solution? How is christianity evolving without Diocletian's persecutions and a neutral Emperor such as Constantius?
