WI: No Cuban Missile Crisis (or a Delayed CMC)

The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of the defining moments of the Kennedy administration and had major effects on world politics and history during the Cold War. What if 1962 had gone without the installation of missiles in Cuba, potentially delayed into 1963 or after the assassination of President Kennedy?

If you delay it to 1964 or later, there is no Cuban Missile Crisis because the Soviet ICBM production ramps up dramatically and they don't need to stage IRBMs from Cuba to present a credible nuclear threat to the U.S. mainland.

If there was no Cuban missile crisis, would Khrushchev stay in power or would still be desposed

Would no Cuban Missile Crisis mean that there would be another near miss somewhere down the road? After the CMC came the hotlines, with no CMC we have less communication between the two groups. Could this make for problems?

Possibly, but there were other factors which led to Khrushchev's ousting, ranging from his other erratic moves in foreign policy (i.e. the Sino-Soviet split) and resentment towards his domestic policies (some of which was understandable, esp. re: Virgin Lands).
