WI: No Condon Report

In 1968, the USAF received the Condon Report, which basically told the AF to get out of investigating UFOs-at least in public, though as one AF General remarked "UFO reports that can affect national security are not handled through the Blue Book System, and are dealt with in channels set up for that purpose." WI the AF had not set up the Condon report-which was derided as having its conclusions preordained-and Condon's remarks seemed to illustrate that-saying that any scientist who disagreed with him "ought to be publicly horsewhipped and banned from teaching", and listened to its own scientific consultant, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, and scientists like Dr. James McDonald (Physics, University of Arizona), Stanton Freidman, and set up a genuine investigation, which paired the military with scientists, engineers, astronomers, etc. to really find out what's out there. FYI, here's a link to the Condon report online, along with a number of other online books dealing with UFOs-including the only Congressional symposium on UFOs (in 1968): http://www.nicap.org/onlinebooks.htm
