if this has come up before, I apologise.
It's 1945. Europe.
The US and Soviets look around at all the rubble and say to each other: 'No way are we going through this again'. They decide to co-operate when they agree and leave each other alone when they don't. Live and let live.
Basically, the Cold War doesn't happen. Or if it does, only at the intelligence level. Perhaps Stalin decides to go isolationist. (Or the decision is made for him by that well-dressed firing squad!

)
I know it's a stretch but this is Alternative History.
First of all, where does it leave Germany? Germany (both of them) is only put back together again so quickly because of the Cold War (for instance, the major powers employ a lot of ex-Nazis because they are the best people at whatever it is they do). How long would reconstruction take? And what if any changes would there be?
How long do the occupying powers stay on German territory in force?
I am assuming that Marshall Aid, or something like it, happens anyway, I don't see any reason why not.
Also, if Britain and France withdraw their military presence from Germany (or at least a chunk of it) what use would it be elsewhere? Could the French hold on to Indo-China? What use would the British Army on the Rhine (BAOR) be trying to hold on to what's left of the Empire (India leaves anyway, that was inevitable since the 1930s) such as Suez? In the OTL, Britain only left Singapore in I think around 1971.
Or do Britain and France simply cut their defence budgets and spend the money on other things?
What happens in Eastern Europe? Do they become democratic 40 years early? Or do they simply turn the clock back?
