WI: No Charles the Bald?

What if Charles the Bald had not been born to Louis the Pious by his second wife Judith? Charle's birth really through a monkey wrench into the division of Francia. Without his birth, could we see a more stable division? Could we see Austrasia and Neustria stay united? I have always wanted to see that.

Without Charles, it would have been less of a mess though... At least during the lives of Lous' sons...

It would have been the same, really if Carolingia didn't lacked one thing, it was pretenders backed by local nobles.

In fact, it could have been WORSE. The Ordinatio Imperii of 817 was really advantageous for Lothar as he would have kept Neustria, Austrasia, Burgundy, Italy, Provence, Saxe, Frisia. It seriously pissed the others.

And if Pépin I of Aquitaine die like OTL and that Louis actually acknowledge Pepin II as sucessor, the principe of independent lines for subkingdoms would be validated.
