WI: No Canadian Progressive Conservatism

Let's say Canada's federal Tories keep the Conservative name in 1942 but only tinker ideologically, no name change or major ideological overhaul. They can hardly do much worse than OTL's PC performance. Effects, consequences?

It's an interesting question, but one thing that I can think of is that John Bracken probably won't become leader, since if I'm not mistaken the name-change and shift in a more progressive direction were his conditions for seeking the leadership.

This WI saddens me...

But in all seriousness I'm not sure it'll change much. A somewhat more Conservative party may keep social credit at bay but moderates and "not-liberals" may flock to the NDP or Grits. Bracken wouldn't be leader, Stanfield probably wouldn't get a shot. You could be looking at the likes of Jack Horner as leader, but that's just a guess.
