WI No "Birth of a Nation"

While everyone is mentioning the whole impact on race relations that the film had, and on the political effects, one other thing that would be interesting to consider would be its effect on the film industry as we know it. For all the racism and ideology in there, it has been regarded as a milestone in terms of film making and cinematic production, so the effect on the industry could also be interesting, possibly pushing back or otherwise butterflying things in the movie industry.

Either that or Griffith could just use such techniques in the movies he'd make instead (The Mother and the Law, etc.)

But then again, if his movies aren't as popular as The Birth of a Nation was in OTL (which is probable... well, a Fall Of Babylon movie might come close) then those techniques might not spread as quickly.

i have a feeling that regardless of wether or nor there was "Birth of a Nation" that with the changing times, people would probably still bring back the Klan. or something like it.

Yeah, it was fairly likely at the time that the Klan would make a comeback. However, Birth of a Nation definitely made sure it would.

I do wonder, though, what form the Klan would have taken had it not had the romanticized imagery of the KKK as presented by BoN.

probably alot more fashionable than those silly robes and hoods. :p
That's actually what I was sort of thinking. Instead of robes and hoods, we'd probably see a more paramilitary-style uniform like those worn by reactionary groups in Interwar Europe. Perhaps a throwback to Confederate uniforms, only more streamlined and "edgier."
