WI: No Ayn Rand?

Ah- the tyranny of economics strikes again. I'm generally less of an absolute economic libertarian- never read any of them, although my anarcho-capitalist friend loves all three. I'm much more of a social libertarian with a more moderated economics.

And please stop trolling about corporations. They aren't technically people, but the bevy of (idiotic) lawsuits against corporations requires that designation legally.
I'm not trolling. They are a good idea, not everything is created by one person sometimes multiples people create them, including fund such projects and all should be compensated for their part. I feel a corporation provides the easiest means to do that. Also remembe that the idea of corporations really isn't that far removed from the idea of the state, they are bodies that act for who they represent.

That being said, much like any other large and heavily moneid group they should be heavily watched and minded and kept within the boundaries of the law.

Given what Ayn Rand wrote, and worse, what some of her admirers believe, I hardly think that statement constitutes trolling.

Did she ever say that? no. Is it entirely fair? no. Is it trolling? no, it's a reasonable extrapolation, a slight exaggeration. IMO

i.e. "I agree with this, so it's not trolling"

That's obviously been posted just to get a rise out of people.
It'd be like somebody posting that all liberals are America-hating communists.

I couldn't agree more. Strong corporations generally have proven disastrous for society.

Like the AFL-CIO?

Remember corporations are not just profit making business enterprises owned by stockholders. Corporations are essentially groups of people banding together as a legal entity to accomplish a purpose.

Labor unions are corporations and have the same legal standing.

Most churches, if they have any paid staff and own any property, are also corporations. As is American Atheists.

Charities are corporations.

Also political action groups, like the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, NRA, etc.

Take away the status of corporations as legal persons and you undermine them all.

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Yes, but also know that everything is a trade off. If you destroy corporate personhood, it could be a net gain because you remove the influence of corporations, and various types of political organizations, all in one fell swoop. Sure, groups that you like may lose influence, but so would ones you don't.

Hence, I'm still for destroying corporate personhood, as the net gain will be worth it. More importantly, no one should be primarily using lobbying to gain political influence.
