WI: No American immigration to Texas

If by Texas you also mean Northern Mexico, It would mean a rapid acceleration towards the Slave/Free State controversies that led to the ACW. (Bleeding Kansas Style) The Northern US will focus on expansion toward Oregon while the South will push for the repeal of the Missouri Compromise to allow for more Slave States, as well as expansion into Cuba, Central America and the Caribbean.

Of course, there is still the large amount of French, Irish and German settlement in Texas through out the 19th century.

Mexico will hang on to several very good agricultural regions and a major port. (Galveston) The California Gold Rush, which will probably occur in the early to mid 1850's because of the lack of American Immigration, will increase Foreign immigration to Mexico.

Mexico becomes much more wealthy as gold of Upper California and oil of the Tejas region is exploited. Mexico today would be split between a wealthy northern/eastern region and impoverished south and western areas.

Novels like the Maltese Falcon, Chinatown, or Devil in the Blue Dress will be 'different'.

Movie industry in the US will develop differently.

Alaska will become more important to the US, and develop faster, as will other territories in the Carribean & Pacific.

Mexico had a hard time getting anyone to settle in Texas (and everywhere else in northern Mexico, for that matter), which is why Americans were invited there in the first place. So, if the offer is never extended in the first place, Texas will be at a lower population for a lot longer. For that matter, you might have Americans moving over the border all on their own and settling there; the border was poorly monitored by either side. Texas and the rest of northern Mexico will be coveted by a growing USA, particular TX... it was superb and plentiful land in the east half. I think you'd still have a Mexican War here, but it would be a harder job for the USA, not having TX to start out of... not sure how that would go..
