WI: no 22nd amendment

If this were to happen the GOP would hold the Presidency longer than FDR and Truman did. I think it's unlikely and the Dems would likely take the White House back in '68 or at the latest '72.

I'd speculate that if a less-paranoid Nixon wins in '64 and continues with Ike The Sequel Plus Dick's Neat Ideas he is well positioned for re-election. Now imagine if Nixon gets it in his head to push universal health care and LBJ drools at the prospect, that could also make him decently strong.

Without Vietnam, all kinds of things that had been quashed have room to thrive. American SST airliners. Could one imagine high speed rail?

MLK alive will ensure that progressive energy in the national dialogue does not easily fade into the background.

After a while, Teddy Roosevelt might find it quite familiar.

Throwing all butterflies but one aside, if you add a "No Watergate" Nixon probably could win in 1976, given that his OTL 1972 victory was the largest absolute margin in the popular vote in history (though lagging % behind Johnson in 1964,) some 18 million votes. Given the events leading up to that time perhaps Nixon's win is more like in 1968 but with such a stunning victory 4 years prior it's possible.

Certainly not desirable for him to be President that long, though maybe it means the more Reaganite wing never takes precedence in the Republican Party, keeping the country more to the left in economic terms than today.

My thoughts on the chances of each person
  • Eisenhower would have won in 1960, but since he was suffering from health problems it's unclear whether he'd want to run
  • Reagan would have won in 1988, but was suffering from even worse health problems than Eisenhower
  • Clinton would have won in 2000
  • Bush would have lost in 2008
  • Obama would have won in 2016
