WI: No 22nd Amendment

I think the greatest effect will be the butterflies that are small.

Let's say JFK is intimidated by running in 1960 because it will be against Ike. Ike bows out at the last minute, leaving Lyndon Johnson the narrow victor of an election where people compared Nixon to Ike more than OTL, and didn't like what they saw. However, Nixon won the popular vote...

Let's say the Democrats, frightened over a third term for Reagan, press harder on Iran-Contra. The Republicans could do the same to Clinton. I don't think either Reagan or Clinton will run again, because their wives would be against it. But how can congressional leaders be so sure? Such a thing would lead to Reagan's impeachment, but Clinton would likely win even more than OTL. Unless a self-destructing Gingrich tosses campaign violations as a "Fuck You!" to Clinton and his colleagues who stabbed him in the back.

And the Democrats might impeach Bush II. A lot of little stuff. But I think only Obama would possibly run for a third term out of OTL Presidents.

Henry "Scoop" Jackson (Democratic) 1977-1983*
Lloyd Bentsen (Democratic) 1983-1997

Peter B. "Pete" Wilson (Republican)
Scoop Jackson would need a liberal running mate. If he wins reelection does that mean the hostage crisis and the bad economy are butterflied away. If so how? I guess if Reagan is never president then social conservatives don't become so powerful. I suppose then a social liberal like Pete Wilson could win the nomination.

*Jackson dies in office. Nixon serves two full terms because Watergate breaks later or never happens.[/QUOTE]
