According to the infallible Wikipedia, George H.W. Bush was apparently considered to be Richard Nixon's running mate in 1968. Yes, I realize that Bush was only a first-term Representative at the time, but scratch the surface and there's some logic to the decision. As a Congressman from Texas, he could've helped narrowly deliver the Republicans that state. With a generally conservative voting record in the House, he would be acceptable to Southerners. And as the son of former Senator Prescott Bush, he could've helped bridge some of the gap between Nixon and the Rockefeller Republicans.
So how about it? What if Bush had been Nixon's running mate? Does Nixon still win? And if he does, what happens from there?
