WI: Nintendo decides to localize Fire Emblem with the third game?

IOTL, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem was the highest selling game in the series before Awakening came along. Whilst the series was mentioned in Nintendo Power (with Genealogy of the Holy War being called Descent of Jihad) the series was never brought outside Japan until Marth's popularity in Super Smash Bros. Melee caused Nintendo to relent and finally localize The Blazing Blade.

So, what if Nintendo, seeing the popularity of Mystery of the Emblem AND seeing how well RPGs are doing (they were still a niche market but were steadily gaining headway, but of course FF7 was THE breakout title) decides to localize Fire Emblem? Shining Force had beaten them to the punch as far as SRPGs were concerned, too.

I think the game will bomb, just see the game...compare that game vs Secret of Mana, upcoming FFVI and other RPG in the pipeline, FE:MoE is ugly at the time, even compare a shining force game, that might be even worse. I think besides having in the future the VC console release, maybe the DS remake would IS give a damn? those were to straight and too ulgy for the console, here with MoE know in the west they might make a worthy remake(like Shadows of Valentia)

True. Barely above NES level graphics in 1994 really hurts FE's case here. And it's a shame we've never had a Marth game that looked good IOTL, even if they're solid games gameplay-wise.

Yeah i know they were remaking a game alongside a new one and make that fit an cartidge but yeah the game graphics did sinned for that and is something the west will be more critical...again getting early localization still worth it.

An early localization might always butterfly away Thracia being made for the SFC. Genealogy being an SFC game a few months before the N64 is understandable, but an SFC game released a couple of years before the GameCube seems really weird.

That said, the N64 was a disappointment in some respects, but it's still odd that Fire Emblem skipped it entirely.

Seems was something internal in IS, seems something even miyamoto was critical and he himself was pushing for a fire emblem 64(alongside a metroid game) dunno the whole story, but seems shozou kaga got sued because he might have started his own fire emblem clone with things were intended for the N64 ones.

Yeah it was something, again maybe seems the team didn't want to move N64....maybe with a SNES Fire emblem in west miyamoto will push more for a fire emblem game for the Nintendo 64?(can be thracia or brand new game)

Didn't Kaga leave IS before making Tear Ring Saga? Thracia was his last FE game after all.

Also we could see Maiden of Darkness (what became The Binding Blade) become an N64 title instead of a GBA title. I wouldn't want to butterfly away the GBA FE games though, since they've aged the best of any FE game.

The series hasn't had the best luck in consoles. Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn didn't help it break out of its niche the way the make-or-break Awakening for the 3DS did.

IIRC Path of Radiance was a hit/sold better in the west by a large margin, that is the reason why we got Radiant Dawn in first place but RD did underperfomed anywhere(but still sold best in the west, Ike is not called the most popular lord for nothing and that was before smash). Plus the Radiant Dawn was a pretty slow and curberstomp game, after the more fast paced PoR did was a dissapointment.

Awakening was a game fit the console as a glove and was quick paced in gameplay and solid in every aspect, that is why finally break the franchise out of niche status

Kaga leaved IS in 1999 just before thracia gone gold and he was able to pull tear ring pretty quick...there some rumours and urban legends but nothing proved.

THE GBA will get FE games for it, the system was pretty powerful to have the SNES and even better level of gameplay, but will be far different beast that their otl ones.

Way I see it:

Path of Radiance was released as the GameCube was nearing its end and the GameCube was the first time Nintendo was embarrassed in the home console department.

Radiant Dawn had the misfortune to be an early Wii title. A lot of Wii titles emphasized the novelty of motion controls and Fire Emblem zagged while every other Nintendo IP zigged (not that you can really do motion controls for an SRPG, honestly). Being released the same week as Super Mario Galaxy did not help.

Awakening was the make or break title, so you know what happened? Not only did IS go for a massively nostalgia-based title, Nintendo also went all-out in promoting it, especially since the 3DS wasn't successful early on. Its success alongside that of Pokémon XY made the 3DS the prime RPG platform I think.

The 3DS was already an RPG target but the sucess of atlus early life title alongside own Nintendo offering make it the must get console for RPG and would still kick in that departament.

Yeah Awakening got the perfect Storm and the game was pratically perfect in gameplay departament and other ones too.

It's weird but I think Awakening will still be my favorite of the 3DSFE games once all is said and done, even if I don't like it as much when I first played it.

Fates was kind of a disappointment (Birthright was the only route I wasn't disappointed on, though I had low expectations for it to begin with, Conquest's story sucks, Revelation felt forced a lot of the time). Shadows of Valentia is nice and I liked Gaiden, so there's that.

that why you don't hire a mangaka(and one with accused far right tendencies) to write a videogame script.....and later have to save face with such mess of it. Conquest is Amazing, everytime i make a different plan for each chapter, birthright never interested me and revelations in on hold when ge more money.

Shadows of Valentia is how you make a remake, is what Shadow Dragon should have beee.....

Ignoring the politics, it's worth noting that Kibayashi apparently wrote a 5000+ page story and had to trim it down to ~500.

Even so, the biggest issues with Conquest I have are how it handles everything after Chapter 13 and how some chapters are blatantly forced into the narrative because the map designers had a gimmick they wanted to use (Chapters 19-21 are the worst in this regard).

I'd also argue part of it was that the marketing went overboard.

Anyway, ITTL, we likely won't see Fates become the bloated mess it is IOTL, given that IS and Nintendo aren't scrambling to follow up on the first smash hit the franchise has had globally.

It was a 500 page story treatement since the begin, and that expanded when needed extra info, the issue is Kibayashi was too busy he never helped to iron details.

Guess thanks to what.....

I would say more parity clause between version, as the chapter besides fuga will ride never feel that gimmick.
