WI: Nintendo Bought Sega?

Sega was pioneering online gaming with SegaNet on the Dreamcast. It's possible that Sega could rework SegaNet for the Gamecube meaning we could potentially see Mario Kart: Double Dash, Super Smash Bros Melee, Pokemon Colosseum/Xd and Kirby Air Ride with online multiplayer.

Maybe 3D Sonic games becomes a “once every five years, but we’ll get it right” like 3D Mario.
Mario tends to be 'once per generation/hardware with exception like SMG2 or other games' so one sony every three to five year is pausable.

I have high hopes for Sonic. Obviously, given Nintendo's stance on fan-made games, we would never get something like Sonic Mania, but then again something like Sonic '06 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric are very, very unlikely to exist.

So yeah, Sonic would probably only get one game per console (maybe two if the first sells and reviews very well).

Yeah, I think Sonic will be the same row as Mario and Zelda, a frontline flagship game franchises, with others helping a lot to avoid droughts

Sonic would also probably show up in other spinoff Mario games, like Mario Party or Mario Kart. Link, Villager, Isabelle, and the Inklings already made the jump to the latter, so it's pretty safe to say Sonic and Green Hill Zone would be in a DLC cup for Mario Kart 8.

Alternatively, Nintendo might make a Mario/Sonic crossover kart racer, combining elements of Mario Kart and Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing.

Though it's likely that the Olympic Mario/Sonic crossover games would be butterflied, considering it was Sega who got the VG rights to the Olympics, not Nintendo.

Maybe the get into those kind of game early, so when the olympics got butterfly away, maybe a Nintendo x Sega sports instead?

Like I said before, Sonic would most likely be introduced into Smash Bros Melee instead of Brawl as was planned in OTL.

We might see more Sega characters get in but that depends more on Sakurai’s decisions.

Sakurai may be inclined to pick a "WTF" character or a unique character from Sega's roster to put in Smash (obviously either after Sonic gets in or along with him). And I think he'd like the challenge of making Ristar a viable fighter.

Ristar is easy thanks his arm...something insane would be a daytona car(yes i know of figther megamix one) or something even more weird

That would be hilariously epic.

Regarding Nintendo buying SEGA, I wonder how Ninty's internals would change - how would they handle the massive influx of studios, people, and franchises? This would obviously give them a major boost, but I wonder what collaborations we'd see as a result.

Sony may be more inclined to either buy part or all of Square/Square Enix, to ensure no more quality game devs could potentially leave them. Though I don't know if Sony would really want to do that or have the means to do so.

A positive to this would be seeing NiGHTS' revival potentially spawning many sequels on the Wii, as well as better online in general for the console.

They could OTL and decided just to Enix to buy it instead, if the internalized Square, that Means Enix stay like OTL(maybe the one fight with sammy over tailto in the future) and Enix later just buy Eidos like OTL.(for me the name is wrong, is Enix-Square)

Plus Sega was a rival hardware, that is hardly a loss for them(example not PS2 from SEGA anyway)
Can you say Ecco the Dolphin?
How could forgot about him...that is trully a more massive outliner.

Well...that is a massive change and nitnendo did reorganized when yamauchi retired too anyway....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_development_studios#1999–2004

Let's say All reorganized, As Sega and Nintendo are a bullet train away, all Sega Studios Take place of EAD Tokyo and reorganized, Something like post 2004 but with more studios, with Brownie Brown reorganized with Hitmaker/RPG studio(not monolithsoft yet and maybe not sadly), and other falls in line.

I can imagine miyamoto now working with Sonic team/yuji naka, ditto Koizumi later on, and Genya takeda working side to side with Yu suzuki in arcades machines.

Likely picks for Smash would be

Sonic - Would most likely be a last minute newcomer for Melee
Shadow/Metal Sonic - Clone/echo of Sonic debuts either in Brawl or Smash 4
Tails/Knuckles/Amy - Other Sonic characters will likely be added in Smash 4 and Ultimate
Dr. Eggman - If hes not a fighter in Brawl he's probably a boss in Subspace Emissary. (That is if Subspace isn't cut in favor of adding more characters.) Definitely makes it in Smash 4.
Beat/Gum - Possible pick for Brawl if not a fighter than an assist trophy.
NiGHTS - Another possible Brawl pick.
Alex Kidd - Could easily be a classic 8-bit character like Pit/ROB in Brawl or Duck Hunt in Smash 4
Akira Yuki - The big issue here is translating a 3D fighter to a 2D fighting game.(Sakurai considered Heihachi for Smash 4.) Would probably be an assist trophy and highly requested by fans.
Sakura Shinguji - Lack of international relevance night keep her out until Smash 4. Unless they pull a Marth and put Sakura in Brawl to increase Sakura Wars international popularity.
Ryo Hazuki - A popular request for sure. But he might be too generic for Sakurai to want to add.
Bayonetta - Assuming the Bayonetta games still happen she'll definitely be in Smash 4.
Ecco the Dolphin - Definitely the kind of WTF character Sakurai would enjoy adding.
Arle Nadja - Most likely an assist trophy. Could possibly be a fighter in Ultimate if she gets requested enough.

Now I kinda want to make a Timeline about this.
