OTL, Nicolas Sarkozy's father, Pál Sárközy, fled Hungary in the late 40s, came to French-occupied Baden, and enlisted in the French Foreign Legion. In 1948 he was scheduled to be sent to fight in the Indochinese War, but apparently his army doctor was also Hungarian and gave him a medical discharge, thus meaning he could remain in France after completing his tour of duty in Algeria.

So what if Sárközy is unable to get out of it and does fight in Indochina?

This probably butterflies OTL's Nicolas Sarkozy out of existence, as Sárközy hadn't met his mother yet, but if he does have a son who grows up to be an ambitious French politician, how does this military background affect his views?
