His brother takes over as Tsar
Russia changes a fiar bit

His brother George would inherit only three years after this, but then die before the end of the century of TB (likely a chronic condition in his case and not likely to butterfly out).

Then we get Michael, but will he have gone for a Morganic marriage at that point, or would his elevation in the line end up causing him to find a more suitable marriage?

What about immediate consequences? Anything now different in the Japan/Russia relationship? Could this lead to a Russian punitive mission?

BTW, who would have tried to assassinate Nicholas and have the opportunity to get to a Japanese policeman to have it happen?

And of course, do we get a Russo-Japanese War ITTL? It seems likely we'd either have an earlier conflict over the assassination itself, or none as Michael strikes me as a much more reasonable monarch.

Right not great with Russian history but i shall do my best :D

I think that according to sources ive read and the general feeling you he was quite a pragmatic man and thus would have married for the country.
Natalya he would probs keep as a mistress and George would proberly become a semi-important figure in the Governmeant or army - well in the future

What about immediate consequences? Anything now different in the Japan/Russia relationship? Could this lead to a Russian punitive mission?

I would think that honour would demand it; not quite sure how it would go or the effects, becasue the oppisition to the Governmeant was still quite disorganised

BTW, who would have tried to assassinate Nicholas and have the opportunity to get to a Japanese policeman to have it happen?

Not sure what you mean  sorry

As I said above I think honour would demand it so maybe an expedition and then Japan make some quick reperations like favourable treaty or something.

Don't know if thats any help

No trans-siberian railroad = possible war with Japan picking up chunks of Siberia. Russia was string but it's tough to do more than defend yourself in 1895 with supply lines 10000+km long. Japan gets bloodied at Dalien but if they can crush the Russians at sea they're golden.
