WI: New Spain breaks away from the Roman Chruch

I was talking with some friends about state religions and this scenario came up, I do not think it is very likely but it is certainly interesting.
So we all know that in Mexico today (as well as many other Latin American countries as well as the Philippines) the cult & worship of the Virgin of Guadalupe is an essential part of people's Christian / Catholic lives. Sometimes (if not practically always) the Virgin is even given more importance than Jesus and is definitely more present in people's prayers than any saint and possibly even God.
So WI: at some point before or after the independence of New Spain (although clearly this act would be very much like declaring independence) the church in New Spain/ Mexico breaks away from the Roman Catholic to create La Iglesia Catolica Apostolica Guadalupana? (or Guadalupan Catholic Church).
Would the new faith be able spread across Latin America?

There are political, social, and liturgical issues here. I am not a scholar of Mexican culture, but certain loopholes strike me. What is your closer PoD on the 'Guadalupan Catholic Church'? Socially, the cult of Guadalupe was well established from relatively early times (16 c.). The cross-pollination through trade with the Phillipines began well within the New Spain colonial period.

What would the liturgy of this church look like? The Roman Catholic Mass never addresses Mary individually as it would address persons of the Trinity (though Mass can be said in Mary's honor just as with any other saint.) Presumably the 'Mass' of the Guadalupan Catholic Church would elevate Mary to a quasi-participant in the Trinity, perhaps through direct address in prayers. That might fit well with the culture, but would likely render the church heretical in the eyes of Rome and other Christians.

I would expect some tensions between orthodox Roman Christians and members of this new church if the two were to coexist in Mexico. Political tensions might appear, and these faultlines might extend far from the schism between Roman Catholicism and the Guadalupan Catholic Church.
