WI: Nervii win the Battle of the Sabis

The Romans may leave northern Gaul for the present, as Caesars enemies at home may be able to say "well it was an illegal invasion anyway and he overstepped his authority," using the chance to get a dig at the Triumvirate and diminish their growing power. A catasrophic defeat may cause them to pull back and settle with less of Gaul than Caesar pacified. The Senate may whitewash themselves of the invasion and say it was a rogue effort on Caesars part and attempt to make amends with what few allies they have left in the region.

But given the way Caesar treated the Gauls both friends of Rome and enemies alike, it will likely still galvanise them into a united force. Then again without an immediate threat they may disperse. Vercingetorix will probably still take control of the Arverni as he seems the ambitious type.

Crassus would probably still go east as it was always seen as the wealthier region to conquer.

The Nervii will probably rewarded with the vicctory and be seen as the leading tribe of the Belgii. They would probably see those tribes that left, when the going got tough against the Romans, as worthy of retribution to maintain the dominance in the North of Gaul or just pick on a token few tribes to make an example and ensure that the others followed their orders.
