Wi neither Ford or Reagan can secure the 76 GOP nomination?

Hi guys,

There are quite a lot of 76 discussions on here-including those surrounding the possibility of Reagan taking the Republican nomination away from Ford at the Convention. However, what if the deligates are unable to decide who to nominate for several baletts?

First of all, is this possible? Secondly-assuming the Republicans name a compromise candidate as their nominee, who would it be? Who would they pick as their Running Mate? and how do they do against Carter in the General Election?

Ultimately since Ford is President, they'd look at him to run for President and probably ask Ronald Reagan to run as his Vice President. They'd point out to Reagan that if Ford wins, he's ineligible by the 22nd Amendment to run for another term, so win/lose Reagan would be in the best position for 1980.

In my opinion this flips California, the other states mostly remain the same and Ford/Reagan win the election getting 286 electoral votes to Carter's 252.

What does it mean having them in the White House instead of Carter that's a good question.

Well the Panama Canal transfer will still happen as Ford started that not Carter

My opinion Reagan's charisma would still have a large influence on the Presidency, and when the Oil Crisis started I believe you would have seen a larger push for domestic sources.

Got to think about other things. It's possible the Iranian revolution may have been delayed by a couple of years.

Since Ford won because of the support of uncommitted delegates, I see him losing support on the second ballot and Reagan winning.
