WI: Napeoleon killed in the opening stages of Waterloo?

There's a story that, on the morning of the Battle of Waterloo, a British artillery officer asked the Duke of Wellington for permission to take a shot at Napoleon, who whilst inspecting the battlefield had come into range of the Allied cannon. Wellington famously refused, saying that army commanders had better things to do than taking pot-shots at each other. Say that Wellington had given the officer permission to fire, and that the resulting salvo managed to score a direct hit on the Emperor, killing him instantly. How does the rest of the conflict pan out now?

We'd certainly know that artillerist's name!
But Napoleon's myth might have been stronger since he'd not been out-generalled.

Maybe he becomes a Jean de Arc like martyrdom figure . A tragic Saint of the French Nation

Well, there will be a good number of alternate history scenarios where he lives and rebuilds his empire.

The Revolutionary cause would collapse, and the army would collapse within a hour or two. Ney and the other generals will try and save their own skin first.

Although it is debatable, if he really had a chance to win Waterloo. True, his Generals didn´t follow his orders, but the united alliance against him might have been too powerful.

Well I know his name, the Hon Cavallie Mercer RHA, major in rank. There's a famous painting of him.
