What would have happened if the Nag Hammadi collection of Gnostic writings had been discovered much earlier, either around 1200 CE or around the time of the Protestant Reformation? (Assuming of course that the manuscripts survive the primitive preservation techniques of those times and are not immediately destroyed by church authorities).
Would this have influenced the development of Christianity? Could Protestantism gone in a different direction? Would there have been something of a "gnostic revival" or would these writings just been a blip in history?
