WI: Mussolini stays Socialist?

What if Mussolini stays in the Socialist Party. Lets say his views on WWI never get out or something. Could he still rise to rule Italy? Would a Socialist Mussolini turn Italy into more or less a Fascist Italy analogue or no? How would this affect the Rise of Fascism in other nations like Germany since Hitler was inspired by Mussolini?

If he don't found the PFI i doubt that Benny will rule Italy; one of the reason of his total separation from the PSI was that there were already a plethora of leader as competition and while quite famous it was a very controversial figure and not loved by many

His foray into journalism didn't help did it?

Double edged sword, while becoming a journalist allowed him to become know in wider circles and refine his ideas and style it also give him the occasion to create a lot of enemies and political adversaries even among the socialist

And Mussolini's views did not mesh well with the rest of the party anymore, he was becoming more and more isolated.

It really depends all from where the POD is. He was one of the most prominent members of the Maximalist current of the party at one point, if you change his line of action he could have remained a big name in the PSI, with all the consequences, like joining the PCd'I (which was founded by Maximalist secessionists).
