In my very small knowledge of marketing, the actions taken by the major media groups against piracy, p2p, etc are a study case of what not to do when technological advances change a market. And the knowledge about what to do about it has been availiable as basic marketing knowledge for decades. So, WI some of the top tier executives from Sony, BMG, etc decide to take a smart approach to technological changes? In other ways, WI they have embraced techonological change from the beggining instead of trying to fight against it and stick to their old business models?
How would that change the music/movies and maybe gaming industries? And which ones could those different actions be?
I was thinking about, ie, the major companies partially developing and therefore owning mpeg technology, using money to buy the early p2p networks such as Napster, Kazaa, Emule, instead of unsucessfully trying to ban them. Or offering music for downloads by the late 90s and not taking such a fanatical stance to copyright and listening to their PR guys about that issue. Or movies being availiable for download a lot sooner?
Ideas?
