WI: Multiple American Capitals

I know this seems a little strange and it's meant to be small question. What if america went the south Africa route and had more than one capital? Let's say three. Where would said capitals be located and what would be the overall impetus?

So basically imagine having the White house in say Boston, Congress in say Philadelphia, and finally but not least say The Supreme Court in Richmond.

Personal Opinion: The most logical reasoning behind this might be a desire to balance and represent the various major regions of the early USA. At around the time of independence there was arguably 3 major regions of sorts if you will these being, the Northern colonies(New England) The Middle Colonies(New York and down) and finally the South(Virginia down). Having 3 different capitals with a different branch located in each would atleast in my eyes make a lot of sense in representing these regions fairly in a sense. Kinda sorta like the impetus behind DC being that it was in the rough geographic/population center of the USA. The question at this point though becomes who gets what? I'm guessing Congress goes to the middle colonies being that everyone is supposed to meet there and meeting in the middle just makes things easier for everyone. So Philadelphia probably gets the spot. I'm guessing the executive would be placed in the south reasoning being that many considered Georgia Washington the logical first president and well he's from Virginia and by extension the south so it makes sense to place the capital close to where the big man lives. The site at DC might still be chosen in this world if not Richmond makes sense. So that leaves the Judiciary all the way in the north. The aforementioned Boston makes sense in that regard being the center of revolution and in a sense by extension justice.

Just some thoughts what are yours?

In the absence of telegraphs and telephones, the business of government would take a lot longer with the three branches that far apart.

It could easily be the byproduct of something later on like a MUCH worse ACW or some reform in a worse Depression(where it is done and states even write amendments).

The United States isn't formed because either American independence goes differently or the confederation collapses. Instead you get three English speaking American nations, which later form a union, with all three of their capitals the official capital. This is what happened with South Africa and almost the only way you can get this.

As an alternative, Washington is made the official capital, but is judged unsuitable for some reason, so Congress and the President start operating from another city but no one changes the designation of Washington as the official capital.

There is no reason at all to have multiple capitals other than the reasons I just gave and its almost never done.

Shouldn't be an issue in the 18th century considering the generally small size of the federal government. By the time it would become an issue such things would have already become a thing more or less.

And to the one who said the lack of reason. Well I would argue fairness is one. As of now are many of the the benefits of the federal government(mostly money investment) currently only go to one area of the country, DC and surrounding counties. Wouldn't it be nice if that was more nicely spread around, aka the classic why not put the secretary of agriculture in Nebraska argument. It might not be super useful but it could theoretically be helpful and encourage investment to that region and bring more attention to diverse regions of the country. Were a federation remember? Having multiple regions be represented is the whole point of the thing and yet the federal government always seems to always feel like it's stuck in it's own little bubble away from us all. It's potentially possible having multiple capitals each in a different region and in general having the government meant to represent all being more spread could encourage a different more "inclusive" of sorts mindset. It might not but nothing tried nothing gained.
