Imagine a scenario where the the following things happen:
  • Settlement of New France begins in the 1540s, and due to further colonization and natural population growth, New France attains a population greater than the Thirteen Colonies by the 1700s (read Earlier Permanent Settlement of New France by @Viriato to see how this is possible)
  • History in Europe basically follows OTL for 2 centuries, the butterfly effect is minimized.
  • The French perform disproportionately well for their colonial population in the French and Indian War/Seven Years' War, like OTL. But instead of holding a heroic defense ultimately to defeat with a small population, they go on constant offensive and have a crushing, brutal victory thanks to a massive population.
  • With French troops occupying most of the Thirteen Colonies, Louis XV goes ham and decides to annex them into the French colonial empire.
Assuming the above is 100% plausible, what happens next? Could a New France with a greater population than the Thirteen Colonies successfully absorb them? Would there be a revolution of the American settlers against the French? Or a Boer or Acadian expulsion type situation?

Alternatively, a successful integration? Yet maybe that could lead to spread of literacy from the Eastern Seaboard to the Francophone regions, making New France troublesome for the French crown.

If the French are victorious in both conquering and suppressing/consolidating British North America, will it be at great cost to the French monarchy? If so, perhaps the French Revolution happens and the King of France resettles in united eastern North America?

If the French retain the entirety of North America, and remain united after the Bourbon Restoration, so that New France is a permanent, loyal extension of Old France, then just how big can the French colonial empire get?
