WI: Mongols stay in Mongolia

The Mongol invasions of the 13th century radically altered the destinies of many prosperous and influential civilizations. The Chinese Empire was never the same again, the great cities of Cenral Asia were levelled, the Caliphate of Baghdad was destroyed forever and the Islamic Empire never recovered, the Russian nation was eliminated before it even begun, and the once powerful nations of Eastern Europe were humbled in the eye of their Western neighbours.
So what if Temujin was murdered in childhood, shortly after his father's assassination. Would another Genghis Khan emerge? Or would the hoards stay put on the steppes, squabbling among themselves. How would the geopolitical development of Eurasia pan out in the long term?

Best example of this timeline I have seen, up until the end at least.

I think it can be argued that both Kievan Rus' and the Islamic world were declining before the Mongols, and they just finished it off.

It depends on how differently you want the TL to go. In my opinion, the Mongol invasion was partially luck and partially because of a Great Man, but also due to the nature of nomadic society. Ever since the Huns and even before, nomads have left their homeland in massive numbers and conquered huge amounts of territory (Huns, Patzinaks, Khazars, Cumans, Gokturks, Xiongnu, Rouran, Avars, Seljuks, etc)... so at some point I think the Mongols will launch a Temujin-like war. It could easily be unsuccessful, if the Chinese are strong enough to resist.
