WI: Mob Vegas Continues?

For decades, and from when Vegas became a city of gambling and up until a few decades ago (I think the 1980s), Las Vegas was run by the mafia and they controlled the casinos. Then the FBI managed to run the mob out, and they were replaced with corporations. This thread was basically inspired by the movie "Casino", and a lot of the times I've heard people say Vegas was better in those days because the Casinos had a personal interest in you and making you feel comfortable, taking care of you, treating their entertainers nicely, and that it felt like you were being taken care of and cared for and that since the corporations came in, it's become very cold and impersonal and corporate and they have no interest in treating you fairly, and it lost its natural soul and became a shallow gambling Disneyland. I didn't visit Vegas in the mob era, so I have no clue, and this thread isn't about that.

Is it at all possible that Las Vegas could have continued to be run by organized crime, and what would be the repercussions and results of that?

The biggest problem there is that the FBI effectively neutered La Cosa Nostra in the 1980s after the Mafia Commission Trials and the Donnie Brasco affair. This makes it next to impossible for them to keep control of Las Vegas when the corporations come in, largely because they will have been badly weakened. So unless you can knock down the Commission Trials and keep the Mafia strong enough to compete in Vegas, you won't be able to hold the corporations off for very long.

This would of course have some interesting knock on effects . Labor racketeering ITTL will destroy the American labor movement more effectively than any capitalist's wet dream.

I think the mob would have to expend too much of their resources in keeping all that family-friendly stuff out. They won't just sit back and let outsiders wander in and help themselves.
