WI - Minardi FC

What if a more successful Minardi F1 team was able to acquire the local Faenza Calcio football team, rename it to Minardi FC and managed to permanently catapult the latter to Serie A?

With the both the F1 and Serie A teams later being acquired by Red Bull and retaining the Minardi name in some form (e.g. Minardi Toro Rosso, etc)?

And just how could Minardi become a more successful team? Sure, the amount of great drivers that debuted with Minardi is impressive for such a team, and they probably were the most "human" team of them all too, but with cars like theirs not even Michael Schumacher at his peak could've achieved much at all.

For Minardi to be successful in F1 you need three things in my opinion. One a well paying sponsor who can help them pay for decent R & D along with better facilities best bet get Red Bull instead of Sauber and get them to buy a percentage of the team, Two a works program with someone who wants to invest in F1 and in the late 80's/early 90's there weren't many of those so either have the Lamborghini partnership work better and lock it in so they can't jump ship when a Mclaren or Benneton come calling then you have them constantly in the points. Third invest in a young driver program if one and two have been done by this point then there is spare money going use that to invest in the future but if allowed tie in these future drivers contracts to allow a finders fee if they go onto better teams then the time and effort spent on getting them ready for F1. If all these are done I could see Minardi in a position like Jordan top of the midfield nipping at the top 4 and if they are then they'll be able to by that team and if they link up with Red Bull sponsorship then it works out better.

One idea depends on Alfa Romeo remaining in F1 for a few more years as a constructor until 1990 (instead of 1985) and from around 1986 producing an alternate successful 1.5 Alfa Romeo 415T* 4-cylinder twin-turbo engine that can be supplied to Minardi prior to being replaced by the 3.5 Alfa Romeo V10* from 1989.

Another would be Minardi managing to become somewhat regular fluke point scorers, with the highlight being Pierluigi Martini somehow managing to beat Ayrton Senna to win Minardi’s first and only GP at the 1991 Portuguese Grand Prix.

From there Minardi would need a well paying sponsor such as Red Bull like HesitatedEye mentioned, which would allow Minardi to acquire, rename and push Faenza Calcio football team to Serie A. It would interesting for both the ATL F1 and Serie A Minardi teams managing to get Minardi merchandise to be very popular and grow into a well-known brand.

Apparently OTL Minardi originally to receive the 1.5 Alfa Romeo V8 Turbo for its debut season in 1985, only for Alfa Romeo to withdraw refusing to supply the engines and forcing Minardi to use Motori Moderni's 1.5 V6 Turbo. - https://www.unracedf1.com/gian-carlo-minardi-interview/

*- For OTL Alfa Romeo 415T F1 engine see Ligier SJ29
*- Known as the Alfa Romeo Tipo 1035 / V1035, the OTL V10 was originally intended for F1 once turbos were banned with the V10 later used in the Alfa Romeo 164 ProCar and at one point in the Group C Alfa Romeo SE 048SP.
