In late April 1967 political situation in Greece was getting worse... Following the dismissal of PM Papandreou by King Constantine II in 1965 a serie of failing "Royal" Governments was being appointed by the King and collapsed after few months...
King Constantine II was about to launch a Royal coup with monarchist Generals in order to abort the elections scheduled for May 1967 on 24 April 1967... However he was caught off guard by a group of 15 low ranking officers on 21 April 1967 who launched their own coup first...
The King contemplated for a moment to have the coup leaders arrested when they entered the palace but he was prevented to do so by his mother Queen Frederica of Hannover (She is reported to have said to him "Shut up and sign the bloody paper" when coup leaders gave him the martial law order to sign...)
WI King Constantine II stood up (to the coup leaders and his mother) and suppresed the coup at the very first hour??? How is this altering History? Any thoughts?
